Automation Fair on Nov. 19
Automation Fair 2014 in Anaheim, Calif. features more than 160 exhibits and almost 100 technical sessions with 15,000 professional development hour (PDH) credits expected to be awarded.
Automation Fair 2014 from Rockwell Automation begins today in Anaheim, Calif., and thousands will cross this space for the 23rd annual event, Nov. 19 and 20. John McDermott, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Rockwell Automation, said on Nov. 18, that 4,850 customers are expected, with 10,000 total attendees, including employees and partner automation vendors, original equipment manufacturers, and system integrators, covering more than 160 exhibits. Nine user groups meet at the event, providing 99 technical sessions, 18 hands-on laboratories, and 17 workshops, McDermott said, with more than 15,000 professional development hour (PDH) credits expected to be awarded.

More than 9,000 attendees from around the globe attended day one of the annual event, hosted by Rockwell Automation and the members of its PartnerNetwork program. Manufacturers, industrial operators, global media and analysts heard how The Connected Enterprise can fundamentally change the way manufacturers and producers do business.
At the event, attendees have free access to the industry’s best suppliers in automated control and information solutions, and advanced automation technologies. Rockwell Automation designed the event to help improve customers’ innovation, productivity and collaboration through discussions, technical education sessions, and hands-on labs.
“This year’s Automation Fair event is helping attendees learn how to realize The Connected Enterprise through linking intelligent assets and optimizing industrial operations, in turn making their organizations more globally competitive and productive,” said Keith D. Many process automation professionals arrived early in Anaheim to participate in the annual Rockwell Automation Process Solutions User Group (PSUG) meeting on Nov. 17 and 18. Operations, IT and engineering professionals in process industries selected from 20 educational sessions and networked with peers and leaders. They also gave feedback that will help direct development priorities for the PlantPAx process automation system from Rockwell Automation.
On Tuesday, Nov. 18, global media and industry analysts attended the half-day media forum, Automation Perspectives, to hear how manufacturers and producers are operationalizing The Connected Enterprise. Industry leaders and Rockwell Automation executives discussed the benefits of Connected Enterprise implementation – such as improved flexibility and agility in meeting demand – and its challenges, including increased security risks. Speakers addressed the role of information-enabled machines at the site-level, best practices for employee training and utilization, and ways to manage uptime in facilities. They also discussed the role of remote asset management, business growth with their customers, and how MES brings it all together.
The Automation Fair event continues tomorrow, Nov. 20, with more than 140 exhibitors, including PartnerNetwork members, universities and industry media. This year’s exhibits showcase advanced power, control and information solutions that secure shared information with suppliers and consumers across processes and facilities.
