Triple-protocol wireless LAN

Scalance W wireless-LAN system from Siemens Energy & Automation operates over three wireless protocols. It provides data rates of up to 54 Mbits/second and operating speeds of 2.4 GHz (802.11b and g) or 5 GHz (802.11a). Featuring deterministic control for client modules, the LAN frees up bandwidth and ensures critical data are received and transmitted when and where they are needed most.

Scalance W completes Siemens’ line of industrial Ethernet infrastructure products, complementing its Scalance X industrial Ethernet switches and Scalance S security modules. Siemens says it has incorporated all convenient features associated with wireless access and incorporating superior data security, critical client data reservation, and the flexibility of 802.11b/g/a open standards. Industrial ruggedness allows mounting on machines, ceilings, or roofs without enclosures. Advanced industry standard security features are easily managed without special training. Scalance W protects against unauthorized access by incorporating Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-bit encryption. It operates at between -20 and 60 °C, and is IP65-rated.
