Nuremberg, Germany—Ethernet in automation, safety and security in automation, and motion control are among key topics on the docket for SPS/IPC/Drives 2006, which opens here today. The exhibit and conference for automation technology runs Nov. 28-30, 2006, and will feature more than 1,200 exhibitors covering a plethora of systems and components in areas including HMIs, drives, interface and sensor technologies, software, and electromechanics. Last year’s exhibit drew nearly 36,000 visitors and as many or more are expected for this event.
Forums, panel discussions, and conference technical sessions will complement the exhibit. Although most sessions are in German, several will be available in English. Vendors and speakers will also be present in joint booths to discuss popular topics, among them wireless in automation; Linux in automation; and sensing, measuring, and testing technologies.
Fundamental to the event will be the array of products introduced and displayed in the exhibit hall. A few of note include:
DST 45-100 servomotor series from Baumüller is said to render the torque motor servo-ready. Product provides a higher torque density while reducing device volume by some 30%. The usual speed range of up to 4,500 rpm remains covered. Housing design protects against dirt. Motors are intended for applications in sensitive industrial environments such as textiles, robotics, and packaging. They are also suitable as direct drives. (Hall 1, Booth 1-310)
On display at theKontronexhibit are Intel Core Duo platforms ranging from ETX 3.0, ETXexpress/COM Express, Mini-ITX, and Flex-ATX, PICMG1.3 slotCPU, 3U/6U/CompactPCI to dual-core-based industrial PCs for OEMs such as a 2U and 4U 19-in. rackmount IPC/industrial server, hot-swappable 3U and 6U CompactPCI systems, box-IPC, and a new touch panel PC. Meeting the diverse needs for industrial Ethernet network connectivity will be the focus ofMoxa‘s presentation. Highlights include an ‘Ethernet automation’ tutorial that shows how Moxa’s industrial-level products can be used on one Ethernet network. Examples include the Ethernet switch family, available with a range of features such as gigabit redundancy and plug-and-play capability; and embedded computers, which come with embedded Linux or Microsoft Windows CE and wide operating temperature design that makes them suitable for industrial communication applications.
