Port splitter will expand controller communication capabilities

Milwaukee, WI—Rockwell Automation reports that industrial control users soon will be able to expand the communications capabilities of existing controllers more cost-effectively with its new RS-232/DF1 port splitter.

Milwaukee, WI—Rockwell Automationreports that industrial control users soon will be able to expand the communications capabilities of existing controllers more cost-effectively with its new RS-232/DF1 port splitter. This device connects to a controller’s DF1 full-duplex port, allowing it to simultaneously communicate with a local network and an operator interface through one port.

“Many manufacturers need a second communications port for a human-machine interface (HMI) or programming terminal, but don’t want to waste money using a more powerful controller just to obtain this feature,” says Scott Haddix, Rockwell’s SLC product manager. “With the DF1 port splitter, control designers and system-level users now have an inexpensive way to increase communications and flexibility in their existing controllers.”

Users will be able to order the DF1 port splitter beginning in mid-2005. It is compatible with Rockwell’s controllers, such as SLC 500, PLC-5, MicroLogix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix and FlexLogix.
