Said to be industry’s first complete, single-chip 10/100 Mbps Ethernet device for end-node connectivity, 16-bit MC9S12NE64 microcontroller replaces more complex multi-chip offerings. Just introduced NE64 is the first in a series of 16-bit MCUs with embedded Ethernet connectivity designed for affordable industrial control and embedded system applications. Based on Freescale’s HCS12 central processing unit platform, NE64 contains all that’s needed for Ethernet connectivity in one package: communications stack, flash memory, RAM, media access controller, and physical layer transceiver. Other device features include: deeply embedded DSP functionality for rapid transceiver operation; 64 KB flash; 10-bit, eight-channel A/D converter; clock generation module with a phase locked loop; four-channel, 16-bit timer; and interfaces (two serial com-munication and one serial peripheral) running at up to 6.25 Mbps. MC9S12NE64 is now available in sample quantities, along with a demonstration board and evaluation board with resale pricing of $74.95 and $249, respectively.
