• ABB USA Inc.(Norwalk, Conn.) announced Sept. 1 that it recently received a $66 million order from the U.S. Postal Service for 100 robotic containerization systems, which will be used to sort open and closed trays and tubs of mail, and place them into containers or palletize them in a pattern on a pallet. The systems will be installed in 51 postal processing and distribution centers throughout the U.S. by Nov. 2000.

• Ziatech Corp.(San Luis Obispo, Calif.) andLynx RealTime Systems Inc.(San Jose, Calif.) unveiled Aug. 31 a partnership to provide enhanced applied computing solutions by integrating Ziatech’s CompactPCI computers and the real-time capabilities of LynxOS communications equipment. Ziatech will offer the Lynx operating system as an option to several CompactPCI single-board computers and development platforms, which are integrated in a variety of telecommunications and Internet infrastructure equipment.
