Albuquerque, NM —The rugged RES-110 Layer 2 and 3 managed Ethernet switch is said to be an outstanding modular package optimized to meet challenging performance and thermal requirements in harsh environments, including military, industrial, or extreme commercial applications, suggests GE Fanuc Embedded Systems , a leading provider of embedded military and commercial solutions. The switch provides Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

RES-110 features an innovative wiring harness said to reduce wiring weight, volume, and complexity, making it ideal for integration into ground and airborne vehicles and other rugged Ethernet applications. Compliant with the MIL-STD-810E specification, the RES-110 is designed to operate under high temperatures, shock, and vibration conditions.

“The RES-110 is another piece in our distributed architecture design for military and commercial applications. Based on our proven CP3 switch, the RES-110 is a rugged COTS Ethernet switch that can be deployed very quickly in a distributed network, especially when used with our Remote Interface Unit,” said Dave Wessing, GE Fanuc global director of defense and aerospace products. “Because the RES-110 weighs less than two pounds and is compact in size, it helps reduce overall system weight and is ideal for onboard Ethernet connectivity in aircraft and ground vehicles.”

The standalone switch requires no host CPU intervention. Switch management can be performed through a serial RS-232 interface. It also allows administrators to easily configure features and monitor performance using its in-band Ethernet interface for Telnet or HTTP and SNMP-based network management with a standard Web browser.

Feature summaryRES-110 standalone Ethernet switch from GE Fanuc Embedded Systems has:• A design for harsh environments, military, and commercial environments;• Lightweight compact milled aluminum alloy chassis;• -40 to 71 °C operation;• 10 ports, layer 2 and layer 3 fully managed; and• Built-in test (BIT) function.

GE Fanuc Embedded Systems offerings include Intel and PowerPC-based single board computers, sensor processing networking products, avionics interfaces, rugged flat-panel monitors, and complete computer systems.
