Schneider Electric raises MV switchgear’s kilo-volt rating
Palatine, Ill. –Rated voltage forSquare DHVL/cc Medium Voltage (MV) Metal-Enclosed Switchgear has just been increased to 2.4-38 kV-up from the previous 2.4-17.5 kV range. At the same time, the HVL/cc line retains its compact size, said to reduce space requirements in most applications by 75%.
The small footprint provides other benefits as well. It suits retrofit projects that need more load capacity and allows the switchgear to fit through standard doorways. Installation is further simplified by a choice of cable entry at the top or bottom of the unit.
More safety, less maintenance

Also, a sealed interrupter houses the main switch contacts. This prevents external arcing and eliminates airborne contamination of the contacts, according to Schneider Electric. Grounded metal barriers segregate all live parts between compartments.
Moreover, HVL/cc switchgear incorporates fault-making grounding switches-part of a mechanical interlock system that effectively stops access to the unit until the switch is full open and grounded.
Adding to its value, HVL/cc switchgear can also increase production uptime and cut maintenance costs. For reliability, contacts in the main switch and ground switch do not require maintenance. “Long-life switches are good for 100 full-load operations, far surpassing ANSI requirements,” says Schneider Electric. As an aid to preventative maintenance, an infrared viewing port lets operating personnel heat scan the fuse/cable and main bus compartments.
