Rockwell Automation acquires CNC technology from Power Automation GmbH

Milwaukee, WI – Rockwell Automation announced December 12 that it acquired ”certain intellectual property” associated with Power Automation’s software-based CNC for $5 million. Power Automation is located in Pleidelsheim, Germany. Rockwell had previously agreed to be a reseller of the product but had decided that ownership and control of the kernel and related technolgy would be in both the best interests of both it and its customers.

This intellectual property will be used to provide CNC motion solutions focused on powertrain applications for the automotive industry. These will be delivered through Rockwell Automation’s Global Manufacturing Solutions business to expand its presence in the global powertrain automotive market. The product will be incorporated into Rockwell’s SoftLogix 5800 engine and provided as an integrated control solution for both machine tool retrofits and as part of a complete control solution for new powertrain manufacturing programs. Rockwell’s ownership of this intellectual property will assure that the CNC platform maintains all the common interfaces, editing environment, and communication as the rest of the Logix platform. Customers will be assured that the technology will be backed by Rockwell.
