Previously sold for $195, the ProfessorDAQ add-in for Microsoft Excel is now distributed at no charge to users ofUnited Electronic Industry’s PowerDAQ cards. ProfessorDAQ allows users to send out control signals and read back results of analog or digital readings. Further, with the assistance of Visual Basic for Applications, a standard component in Excel, engineers can create sophisticated test routines based on PowerDAQ hardware.

ProfessorDAQ features include:

Continuous operation—based on the user-set update rate, ProfessorDAQ fetches and displays the next set of data points from the analog-input buffer. The utility operates continuously until you stop the process manually.

运行Series—displays the latest data in the analog-input buffer, ignoring any intermediate values. This mode minimizes delay between acquisition and display, so that it can’t overrun the input buffer and can operate indefinitely.

One-Shot—reads one scan of all selected channels, places results in the worksheet cells, and halts.

Menus allow users to control many aspects of the hardware’s operation, including:

  • number of points to acquire;

  • screen-update rate;

  • digitization rate;

  • sampling mode;

  • source or destination worksheet cells;

  • which channels to use, in which order, with a separate gain for each;

  • bipolar or unipolar operation;

  • single-ended or differential operation; and

  • start/stop trigger setup (internal or external, on rising or falling edge).

ProfessorDAQ users can also run multiple subsystems simultaneously, allowing the implementation of custom closed-loop control algorithms within Excel, controlling analog or digital outputs based on values from analog inputs.
