Compact packaged drives from ABB Inc. (left) can be mounted on machines or columns. Field installation of additional components into the enclosure units (right) is simple and easy.

New Berlin, WI —New line of packaged drives extends ABB ’s ACS550 general-purpose range of pre-engineered packages to the industrial market.ACS550-PC (package with circuit breaker) and ACS550-PD (package with disconnect) offer users high-horsepower NEMA 12 solutions and lower-horsepower solutions with disconnect options. Offered in NEMA-1 and NEMA-12 enclosures—in sizes to 60 hp at 480 V and 30 hp at 240 V—the units are compact and narrow with a smaller footprint than competitive equivalents. They are especially suited for crowded electrical rooms or mezzanines or for mounting onto a machine or a column on the plant floor.Higher horsepower units reportedly make it easy for end users to install additional components in the drive enclosure. Space is available for field installation of these components in wall-mount and floor-standing enclosures of drives above 60 hp at 480 V and 30 hp at 240 V.Control panel is mounted into the enclosure covers on all NEMA-1 and NEMA-12 ACS550-Px packages. Keypads are easy to program and provide continuous display of three parameters in one of 14 available languages. ACS550-PD models use a switch with fuses as standard; ACD550-PC units, in frame sizes R5-R8 (75-550 hp at 480 V and 50-100 hp at 240 V) use circuit breakers.
