Research Triangle Park, N.C. –The Kennedy Space Center has developed an Advanced Data Acquisition System (ADAS) architecture that meets design requirements including device/system self-calibration, electronic health self-check, failure detection and prediction, electronics and function self-repair, and power management. Rather than including total hardware and software redundancy to overcome failures like conventional designs do, the ADAS design approach is centered on identifying and assessing critical components. This approach, called the ‘spare parts-toolbox’ approach, yields an optimized design that includes the benefits of reduced size, weigh, and power requirements.

ADAS架构contains three main sections including the analog signal section, the digital signal/control section, and the power management section. The analog signal section contains an analog switch matrix, an analog signal conditioner, a sample-and-hold circuit, and a calibration circuit to provide flexibility and signal integrity. The digital signal/control section provides control, monitoring, and processing of several analog modules. The basic design of this section might consist of one or more processors and field-programmable gate arrays. The power management section provides ‘smart’ power management to reduce unnecessary power consumption and consists of a supply-monitoring circuit, and a power supply dedicated circuit.

This technology is part of NASA’s technology transfer program, which seeks to stimulate commercial use of NASA-developed technologies. ADAS technology is intended for applications that include industrial and manufacturing process monitoring, prime mover testing, and power generation monitoring.
