Advantech Co., Ltd. (TAIEX: 2395), provider of embedded platforms and integration services, announces today its new series of embedded boards based on the new Intel Core i7 processor. Intel Core i7 processor-based platforms by Advantech range from computer-on-modules and single board computers to industrial motherboards, the company said in the Jan. 7 statement. These high-end platforms provide targeted performance for multi-tasking and high-quality digital media solutions for a wide range of applications within the factory automation, telecom, military, medical, and casino gaming industries.

Application advantages

"The Intel Core i7 Processor provides outstanding performance that meets the requirements of the market segments Advantech serves," said Franz Wei, vice president of Advantech. "We have taken advantage of such technology to furnish a series of products that can meet multiple requirements such as fanless or compact systems."

Utilizing the Intel Core i7 processor and Intel QM57 Express chipset-based platform, Advantech developed its new series of embedded platforms in various form factors. Advantech’s COM-Express SOM-5788, with a rich graphical interface and powerful performance, is the most suitable solution for graphic intensive and dual-display applications, the company said. Advantech also is introducing its new industrial motherboard, the AIMB-270. It merges top performance with significant power savings within the Mini-ITX motherboard class.

Why this processor helps

"With faster, intelligent multi-core technology that dynamically applies processing power where it’s needed most, Intel Core i7 processors deliver an incredible breakthrough in system performance and performance-per-watt," said Ryan Parker, director of marketing, Intel Embedded and Communications Group.

Advantech is also releasing four other industrial motherboard products based on Intel’s Core i7 processor. These include: Advantech’s Mini-ITX motherboard AIMB-280, MicroATX motherboard AIMB-580, ATX motherboard AIMB-780, and the PICMG 1.3 SBC PCE-5125. All of these products provide superb all-round performance, expandability, and versatility for a wide range of applications.

Advantech provides the most comprehensive range of embedded boards and multi OS support, including Microsoft Windows 7, XPe, and Linux. Plus, Advantech’s intelligent software APIs (SUSI) are bundled with Advantech boards to facilitate application development, the company says.

Advantech says it cooperates closely with solution partners to provide complete solutions for a wide array of applications in diverse industries. The company has three business categories: Embedded ePlatform, eServices & Applied Computing, and Industrial Automation groups. www.advantech.com/eplatform/
