APC, Rockwell launch uninterruptible power system for industrial control

West Kingston, RI— American Power Conversion (APC) and Rockwell Automation have introduced a jointly developed, uninterruptible power system (UPS), Allen Bradley Bulletin 1609 Industrial AC UPS, which is designed for use in factory environments. This system provides backup power to critical devices in the control scheme in the event of power interruptions.

The two companies add that 1609 UPS is the result of a joint collaboration that began in 2003, when APC joined the Rockwell’s North American Encompass partner program. 1609 UPS provides battery backup for process critical devices, such as industrial PCs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), data-logging human machine interfaces (HMIs), and control panels, in case of a power dips, sags, or outage. Also, Rockwell offers 1609 UPS with an optional network management card (NMC) integrated into the unit, which allows users monitor all UPSs from a standard Web-browser.

The 1609 AC UPS line, with Web-management capabilities and field-tested reliability, is a perfect example of how customers can reap the benefits of the most advanced technology through strategic partnerships with companies like American Power Conversion.’

All 1609 UPS units have a 500 volt-amp (VA) capacity and provide approximately nine minutes of battery backup at full load, which gives users the ability to execute a controlled shut-down of the entire operation, in the event of a prolonged power outage.

The partners add that installing the 1609 UPS is simple. Once the branch circuit breaker is turned off, a qualified electrician first snaps-in the UPS into a DIN-rail or mounts it on the back of the panel, then connects it to the computer or industrial control system via terminal wiring blocks, located at the front of the 1609 AC UPS unit. To make integration with other devices as simple as possible, dry contact I/O ports are accessible on the front of the unit.
