PicoScope 2105 fromSaelig Co. Inc. is a USB pen scope that incorporates the features of many high-performance bench-top oscilloscopes into a small, lightweight, ergonomic probe that fits in the hand.

Used with accompanying PicoScope software, the device converts any laptop or desktop PC into an oscilloscope without the need for additional probes or power supplies. It displays signals from 100 mV to 20 V. Features include high bandwidth, fast sampling, and equivalent time sampling (ETS), which enhances the sample rate for measuring continuous signals. ETS or “repetitive sampling” works on repeating, stable signals by building up the waveform from successive acquisitions. An entry-level version of the scope is available for less demanding applications.

PicoScope 2105 is USB 2.0 powered and works on USB 1.0 ports. It has a 24 kS buffer and 100 MS/s sampling. ETS sample rate for stable signals (such as clocks) is up to 2 GS/s. A wide range of drivers is available for most situations, including C, VB, Delphi, and National Instruments LabView. Standard unit costs $349; Entry-level version is $199.
