Houston, TX—GarrettCom Inc. demonstrated a variety of products atISA Expo 2004that make industrial Ethernet applications secure, cost-effective, flexible, and redundant. The company’s featured product line is its Magnum 6K family of managed Ethernet fiber-optic switches, which offer modular, per-port fiber-optic access from 10 Mb to 1 Gb. These switches feature industrial-grade management features, and are available in three types for three environments, including wiring closets, hardened for factory-floor application, and to meet the needs of outdoors/temperature-uncontrolled settings.

Magnum 6K switches are important because of their modularity, supporting a mix of fiber-optic and copper ports, and because of their advanced management features, including standards-compatible support for self-healing rings, and reportedly the most comprehensive web man-agement and security features available in an industrial switch.

Magnum 6Ks are installed in a variety of applications, where their small footprints and flexible mounting hardware enable them to fit easily into minimum space. Also, self-healing ring support makes them ideal for high-availability applications where connectivity failure is not an option, such as factory control rooms, gravel yards, and aviation maintenance facilities with far-flung stations that need to communicate.

与此同时,安全的网络管理(SWM) functionality is a new addition to GarrettCom’s MNS-6K management software. SWM provides authentication and encryption, which is the same web access security technology that handles worldwide financial transactions via the web. SWM enables users to take advantage of the convenience and flexibility of accessing data over the web without fear of unauthorized intrusion or attack.

Finally, GarrettCom’s Fault Timing Analysis (FTA) software is offered free of charge. Fault timing data are critical to implementation of redundant networks in high-availability industrial applications. However, until now, accurate fault timing has been subject to trial-and-error analyses. FTA presents data to users using a simple graphical interface that shows elapsed time in thousandths of a second from the start of the test; an elapsed-time counter that measures fault-detection-to-recovery times in milliseconds; and windows that display the fault times measured, the number of fault incidents recorded, and
