Three instruments intended to improve and facilitate industrial process control were among those introduced this month. They include an intelligent toxic-gas detector, an electrically actuated control valve system, and a Coriolis flow meter. Details about the devices and links to their manufacturers’ Web sites follow.

Intelligent toxic-gas detector from General Monitors features long-distance remote mounting and an intrinsicallyafe design.

An advanced microprocessor-based transmitter from General Monitors is designed to monitor toxic gases or oxygen deficiency and provide status indication and alarm outputs. TS4000 intelligent toxic-gas detector features long-distance remote mounting up to 2,000 ft, dual redundant Modbus communications, 8-Amp relays, three-digit display, 4-20 mA output, and indication of remaining sensor life. All electronics are contained within an explosion-proof housing so that sensor information can be processed at the sensor site. Galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe design supports sensor field replacement without special tools or hot work permits. Device can be calibrated by one person, and can virtually self-calibrate by activating a magnetic switch and applying gas. It is suited for chemical, oil/gas, wastewater, and other hazardous environments, and can also be used in refinery, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage applications.

Fully integrated, electrically actuated control valve system from Woodward Industrial Controls is designed for low-power applications.

Fully integrated, electrically actuated control valve system from Woodward Industrial Controls is designed for low-power, gas-flow-control applications such as remote monitoring in gas production fields. GVP-100 operates using a solar panel and 12 V dc battery system and features robust monitoring and diagnostics capabilities. Valve consumes no gas for actuation, eliminating fugitive emissions and gas venting. Routine maintenance of pneumatic systems as a result of contamination and freezing is avoided. Advanced digital actuator uses a low-power brushless motor with gear reducer to minimize power requirements. Click here to read more about the device .

Coriolis mass flow meter from ABB offers simultaneous measurement of mass flow rate, process density, and process temperature.

A new Coriolis mass flow meter fromABBtargets liquid flow applications in the chemical, food and beverage, refining, and petroleum industries. FCM2000 series, nicknamed “TrioMass,” offers simultaneous measurement of mass flow rate, process density, and process temperature. Features include temperature compensation for meter housing and process tubing for reliable start-up and batch processing; compact size; digital signal processing; and a simple way to configure multiple applications. Meter sizes range from 1/2-in. to 6-in. pipe, providing measurable mass flow rates from 45 kg/min (100 lb/min) to 11,000 kg/min (24,000 lb/min). Measurable densities range from 0.5-3.5 kg/l; accuracies run from
