市郊区,Ga。– Siemens Energy & Automation announced July 17 thatInduSoft Ltd. (Austin, Tex.) is the first third-party industrial software developer to be certified for the company’s Simatic MP370 HMI platform, which is based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system.

Microsoft developed Windows CE as an embedded operating system. While Microsoft’s other Windows operating systems contain everything needed for general operation in one package, embedded operating systems are typically designed for specific applications and targets. Developers pick and choose from various components within the OS in order to keep the footprint down to minimum levels and reduce costs and development complexity. This means that not all Windows CE systems may be alike.

这对于第三方软件带来了挑战developers wishing to target multiple Windows CE boxes. The solution is for hardware vendors to provide certification testing to assure users that the software will work on the platform. Siemens has instituted such a program.

Siemens Open Platform program manager, Paul Shelton, says, “InduSoft’s Web Studio HMI and SCADA software passed rigorous testing byIntrinsyc Software(Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) to achieve certification.”

“InduSoft’s software has a significant number of I/O drivers as well as an ability for the panel to be a web server,” added Mr. Shelton. “To date, Web Studio is the first supervisory control, process monitoring, operator interface and web-enabled software package to pass our certification requirements.”
