  • To help harmonize competing fieldbus and Ethernet-based communication protocols, ABB (Wickliffe, O.) announced April 29 that it will support efforts by the OPC Foundation to create an industry-wide standard for those protocols. The foundation’s OPC Data Exchange (DX) specification reportedly provides the standard communication language needed to unite these protocols.

  • The Industry Solutions business of Honeywell (Phoenix. Ariz.) announced May 9 that it has extended its 10-year-old global alliance agreement with ChevronTexaco for an additional three years. Honeywell has supplied ChevronTexaco with more than $750 million of equipment and services.

  • The HIM Smart HART loop interface and monitor announced by Moore Industries (North Hills, Calif.) on May 14, 2002 allows up to three additional analog process measurements to be obtained from smart HART multivariable mass flow, level, pressure and pH transmitters with no additional process penetrations or wiring.

  • Rockwell Automation (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Power Automation (Pleidelsheim, Germany), a provider of soft CNCs, announced May 8 that Rockwell Automation Global Manufacturing Solutions will resell the Power Automation PA 8000 soft computerized numerical control (CNC) for machine tool and powertrain applications.
