Fujitsu begins shipping RoHS-compliant touch panels

By Control Engineering Staff February 9, 2006

Fujitsu Components America Inc. is now shipping lead-free, RoHS-compliant, equivalent products on its touch panel orders for out-of-stock standard products. The change affects all products in Fujitsu’s 4- and 7-wire resistive touch panel line.

The new devices are drop-in replacements for the company’s existing touch panel products. A gold-plated connector is needed for terminating the gold-plated flex tails to prevent corrosion at the connector contact points. The European Union (EU) Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2006, limits the amount of lead in electronic equipment manufactured or sold in EU member countries.

RoHS-compliant touch panels have new part numbers to distinguish them from existing products. Click here to view a cross-reference table. Panel pricing is the same as or similar to current products.

Fujitsu makes film-glass and film-film-plastic touch panels in sizes from 1.9 to 17.3-in. (diagonal) for applications including desktop, notebook, and palmtop PCs; intelligent kiosks; portable instrumentation; process control; and automotive. The company also offers high-transparency panels, anti-reflection coatings, anti-glare treatments, and circularly polarized filters, which are particularly suitable for high-ambient light and outdoor applications.
