Why Ryan is an Engineering Leader

Ryan Grove is a highly skilled Lead Engineer with diverse engineering experience, including system integration of multiple control system platforms. He has proven skills in planning, communication and improvisation. These skills help him to lead by example and he has successfully executed projects from design through programming, commissioning and startup, by identifying cost and time savings to his customers. Ryan is analytically minded, which enables him to be an excellent problem solver. All of these traits combined make Ryan a natural leader.

Achievements, Advancement & Career-related Industry Contributions

Ryan began his controls career working for Yokogawa on a system migration for an offshore platform. Shortly afterward he developed distributed control system (DCS) and safety instrumented system (SIS) control class and human machine interface (HMI) standards for a new offshore platform and assisted in the complete configuration of the platform using a brand new, unreleased, version of the DCS software. During his time at Hargrove, he has become the Yokogawa subject matter expert, assisting and mentoring teammates while developing training materials and troubleshooting guides for common issues. He has also led a team in creating custom module and equipment sequence libraries for a long-term reactor replacement plan for a PVC plant using ABB 800xA. While executing projects and supporting ongoing facility activities, he has also assisted in developing on-site system improvement plans.

Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies

At home, Ryan enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy series. He believes it is always interesting to get lost in and to discover the intricacies of different fictional worlds. When traveling, he and his wife love to go SCUBA diving. He believes it is an opportunity to explore parts of the world and see wildlife that one does not typically get a chance to experience.

Ryan chose this career path because he believes it is fun and exciting to be able to not only develop solutions to presented problems, but to build on those solutions to make them more robust and reliable enough to handle unforeseen situations. With various industries, processes, and technology involved, there is always something to learn; no single person can become a complete expert in all areas. So, there is always collaboration and opportunity to teach and learn from colleagues in the field to overcome the new challenges that arise every day.
